# Rules for agents

- Cite sources by URL; Zahif never invents content, and reports what it could not find.
- Use mode fast for single pages, extended for multi-source research, deep for exhaustive verified reports.
- Background jobs (crawl, batch, extract, agent) return an id; poll the status URL and follow `next` for more results.
- Every response includes creditsUsed; respect the caller's budget with settings.limits.max_credits.
- Check GET /health `capabilities` before relying on an engine; unavailable features are reported, never simulated.
- Webhooks are signed with HMAC-SHA256 in X-Zahif-Signature.
